Missio Dei (Finding God’s Mission for my Life…before it’s over)
In the book, You Lost Me, David Kinnamar, chronicles the massive numbers of inspiring young minds and energetic hearts who are dropping out and disengaging from their Christian faith. The church can no longer pretend it’s not happening. With strikingly un-orthodox candor, this series will pull back the covers on the primary issue generating this Drop Out phenomenon – God does not need me to do a work that can’t be done by someone else in a more conventional way. I truly believe that if the Next Generation does not re-engage with their Creator’s Mission for their lives in profoundly new and creative ways, a whole generation will indeed be lost – not to mention those to come after as well.
When the Idiot Lights Start to Glow
May 18|19, 2013
Idiot lights on the dashboard of your car are an alert system for people who don’t know they have a problem. One person told me recently, “The Gospel is a lot of theological S*#%!” “Maybe to you, I said, but that theological hooey changed my life and made me a better, father, husband, friend and man.” The church, many times, has been its own worse enemy by hammering the rules over a relationship with Jesus. It’s grace, not goodness we need. Young people think the only way they can serve God on mission is by going to Africa, Haiti or to our TJ Orphanage. Who’s gonna tell them they can be on mission for Jesus by talking to a friend, who has given up on life, about Jesus, over a beer at the Princess Pub in Little Italy? In this message, we will examine the recipe for a true God encounter that can translate into me becoming part of a real God thing…my mission dei.
Great Journeys Begin with Great Interruptions
May 25|26, 2013
My best friend went to Afghanistan to serve our country. He came home in a body bag. I thought he was crazy for enlisting… I still do. What keeps eating at me though, is he had one thing I haven’t yet had – something to fight for…something to live for…something to die for. Something tells me I was born for more. Maybe my friend’s death – a great interruption to my life – will be the start of a new journey that brings to my heart what I saw in his – a mission dei!
Ridiculous Worship
June 1|2, 2013
Calling all artists, poets, musicians, painters, sculptors, actors and actresses into the crew of God’s troubadours! Like medieval minstrels, the church today needs fresh artistic octane from every corner of the world. Multi-faceted and multi-dimensional artists, redeemed by the Lambs blood, to communicate the rescuing beauty of God’s love, grace and forgiveness into the broken desperation of the next generation. In this service we will display the right brained expressions of poetry, music and paint that can capture hearts for Jesus like ours can’t.
People Say, “I’m Uncool”…and that’s cool.
June 8|9, 2013
Funny thing is… once you encounter Jesus for real and start to follow Him…a lot of people think you’re throwing your life away. Why do so many risk so much to follow Jesus? Cause they cannot refuse the exhilarating adventure of following a God who is truly Alive, who is Really Real, and who really and truly loves me Just as I am. This message will explore how such a moment occurs and the sense of mission that follows.
